Update #007 🔫

His Majesty's secret service edition. Anyway, heres wonderwall

Hey everyone, its been a while, how have you been? Oh yeah this is pretty one way communication.

Firstly, because my last e-mail was about raising money, I just wanted to give a huge thank you again to everyone who did (no judgement if you didn't). Thanks to everyone, I raised nearly £700 for CALM, which is pretty insane and means so much. I did in fact finish and it was gruelling and my toe was black for like 3 months, people who run marathons are absolute nutters.

Thanks as ever for staying on this list, I hope you get a nice little read out of it, let me know if you ever want more or less of something of course.

I'm sorry but this is going to be an extra long one I think.

I have wanted to send an e-mail and the longer I didn't do it, the more I put it off, so I want to send one before the end of the year to start fresh next year.

Its nearly christmas and thats exciting for those who care but I presume for everyone in the western world (maybe everywhere?) it serves as a general time of a little more quiet than the rest of the year. Thats a good thing and for everyone who knows me in real life I am a particularly introspective person, so its the time of year i like to reflect.

I'm really lucky in so many ways, so I always feel guilty about complaining about anything. There is no 'but' coming. Things could always be better I'm sure, of course theres lots of stuff going on in the world that is really heavy and a lot to think about, if you aren't inclined to be more useful and actually do anything about it (sadly I suppose I'm in that camp).

I hope you are happy where you are, anyone who reads this. Nothing really means much in life, so as long as you are nice to people in your immediate vicinity that is all thats really important I suppose. If you can do more, then you are worthy of any good things that happen to you as a result.

I'd like 2024 to be a really good year, I'd like to take more risks, continue to know who I am more each day, be healthier. It all starts today of course, but theres no harm in hoping as well. I got to go to Seoul this year with work, because we had an exhibition opening there, and it was a really amazing trip and I guess I wanted to show off a little, but it was a deeply meaningful experience too.

I appreciate my friends who have said they like this mailing list, that also means a lot to me, I quite like it too, so really, thanks for signing up.

Have a great christmas and new years. I think I'll change how this all looks next year

Beer Miles

For those who are partial to a beer, and like them to be on a fun route, I have built out a site to chart the routes in London (manchester and others are in the works) of breweries and other craft beer iconic placesPlease give it a look and a share if its your kind of thing! beermiles.london

CD's are back

At one point when I say that, it'll be true. Anyway I made a dumb site (is there any other kind?) to browse my CD collection.I've always felt its a much nicer relationship, physical media, perusing, feeling the artwork, pressing play and letting it run to silence. But this digital companion is to try help me go back to something I haven't in a long time cds.jthaw.club

  • DIRT This is another one of those weird links which is just about a nice looking content site. I'm always glad to see the web editorial is very much still alive, because I do think a lot of the big sites are likely just AI written or aided now, long live small editorial content

  • Typeroom I recognise that the name of this site should give me an inclination of what it is, but the truth is I don't fully. I really like what it looks like however and its a very interesting deep dive into things to do with type

  • The hidden figures of the Beat Generation I recently got chatting to Alex (the author of this article) about beat generation stuff because i built friendsofkerouac.com and it made me realise I never actually read minor characters by Joyce Johnson. Anyway the article is a good read for a similar sentiment

  • Mierle Laderman Ukeles - Touch Sanitation New York Sanitation dept's first artist in residence - performance art that I really like. I got it from the book How to do nothing, which I also highly recommend

  • My top 10 (32) songs of the year I made a playlist of my top songs from the year, please check it out, reply with if you have the same, I really love hearing people's favourite songs
