Happy Friday! Hope everyone is doing good and keeping safe, with your fresh haircuts and cautious but irreversibly raised pints of beer*. Little update for April. Continued thanks for signing up, send it to any friends you think would be interested.
Enjoy this e-mail late in the day, as a method of pretending to still be working, while watching the clock tick.
*this was a very weird thing Boris Johnson said, I'm rolling with it
Raising money for charity!
I volunteer at a group that helps out the homeless and we are raising money for the Athen's branch (helping refugee mothers)If you were able to give anything, it'd be much appreciated Donate here
New explorations into motion
There is always money in the pen plotter. I've started some new experiments into creating frame animations with them, just to get the grain and the ink bleed organically, but with the precision of coding.I will write up more of the process at some point, because it uses paper.js to prepare the shapes in an interesting way Watch the animation
Boris Bikes Data visualisation
Using data taken every 15 minutes of the Santander cycles in London, I plotted a visualisation to see how London migrates over time. So interesting to see how it swells in the day time, then massively migrates during weekends See the visualisation

Floyd Steinberg Errors
Ironically this visualisation is made with errors to do with the 'errors' involved with the Floyd Steinberg dithering algorithm, but felt good to do some creative coding viz again. For the purists

Handmade Generative Art
I've made a sheet to create your own 'generative' art. For anyone who has seen the term but wants to learn some fundamentals (no code) its a nice way to visualise it.Let me know what you think about this one, I'm thinking of taking it further into its own little project Click here
Cool links/things
OPPRESSED MAJORITY Interesting hard hitting FICTIONAL film, that shows a world where men are oppressed in the same ways women are today.
Farewell - ETAOIN SHRDLU Another video shown to me by a friend, but very interesting short documentary on the last day of the manual printing presses at the New York Times
James Joyce Recently was shown the artist James Joyce and really loved his work, so wanted to share it. I really wish I did the 'Dismaland' work
Popcorn popping drum kit Another bit of work I wish I did, using popcorn cooking, to arbitrarily set off triggers to play a drum kit. Kind of feeds into the handmade generative art sheet, how anything can be an input to something else. Also a great example of, still presenting the work in a very nice way, to make it even more impressive
LOADMO.RE If this hasn't already been sent to you and you are in the business of anything to do with web design, definitely give it a look, a directory of experimental sites for mobile devices
Sound of Metal One of the 'Best Picture' contenders. Just think it's a great film, you should definitely watch it. I hope it wins
